Mild Steel Fabrication

Mild steel is a low-carbon steel (typically 0.05-0.25% carbon) that is easy to weld, form, and machine. ASTM A36 is the most common mild steel specification in the United States. It is the default material for general fabrication, structural work, and non-critical applications where high strength is not required.

Mild Steel FAQ

What is the difference between mild steel and carbon steel?

Mild steel is a subset of carbon steel with low carbon content (under 0.25%). All mild steel is carbon steel, but not all carbon steel is mild. Higher carbon grades (medium and high carbon steel) are harder and stronger but less weldable and formable.
