AISC certification is the gold standard for structural steel fabrication quality in the United States. The certification program verifies that a fabricator has implemented a comprehensive quality management system covering personnel qualifications, welding procedures, material control, shop practices, inspection, and documentation. AISC offers multiple certification categories reflecting different levels of structural complexity: Standard for Building Structures (SBR) covers most commercial and industrial buildings; Intermediate Bridge (IBR) and Advanced Bridge (ABR) cover highway bridge fabrication; Complex Steel Bridge (CPT) addresses the most demanding bridge structures; and Metal Building Systems (MBS) covers pre-engineered metal building fabrication.
